Uri Geller und Peter Popoff



Uri Geller ist ja gerade wieder sehr beliebt. Und mit ihm wird ein steigendes Interesse an Übernatürlichem, Geheimnisvollem und Esoterik in Deutschland bedient, das durch Sender wie Astro TV und immer mehr Mystery-Dokumentationen im großen Stil salonfähig geworden ist.
Bei YouTube gibt es derweil eine Reihe von Videos, die dazu beitragen, Gellers Tricks zu entlarven.

In den 70ern - als das populär war - hat er auch gerne mal behauptet, er habe seine übernatürlichen Kräfte von Außerirdischen erhalten.
Später ist dieses Video entstanden, in dem der Vorzeigeskeptiker James Randi Geller und seine angeblichen Kräfte entlarvt. Der Ausschnitt aus der Tonight Show mit Johnny Carson, in der Geller vorab keine Möglichkeit hatte, seine Utensilien zu manipulieren, ist besonders interessant anzusehen:

Der zweite Teil des obigen Clips handelt von Peter Popoff, eines Anfang der 80er sehr bekannten US-Fernsehpredigers. In Deutschland weitgehend unbekannt, feierte er in den USA große Erfolge als Wunderheiler. Abgesehen mal davon, dass der Mann unglaublich unsympathisch rüberkommt, ist es erschreckend zu sehen welche Scharlatane doch immer wieder gezüchtet werden, die das Leid anderer schamlos ausnutzen und sich dabei auf Gott berufen. Wer jetzt aber glaubt, dass Popoff, nachdem er aufgeflogen war, sicher nicht mehr so einfach Leute ausnutzen konnte, der sei eines besseren belehrt.
Es muss nur genug Zeit vergehen, die Leute haben inzwischen vergessen, sind gutgläubig und verzweifelt genug, und schon ist der perfekte Nährboden für die Rückkehr eines Scharlatans bereitet:
